We develop and accelerate new markets for recycled materials as part of our role in shaping the circular economy. As we expand our capacity to sort and process materials, we need to design new ways to use the recovered materials and organics in manufacturing, agriculture and construction.

SV’s role

We fund, broker and support partnerships with research institutes, universities, industry and government to develop innovative products that contain recycled materials and organics. 

We outline the focus areas where government can intervene to stimulate or accelerate market demand and fund research and development through financial grants.

How it works

We provide a consistent and coordinated approach to support the right conditions for markets of recycled materials and recycled organics to grow and mature.

We provide research and development financial grants to research institutes and industry to develop new uses for recycled materials and organics. The funded projects focus on the technical development of new or existing products that will support the growth of recycled material and organics end markets. Funded activities included lab-based research and testing, production and prototyping, and in-field trials and demonstrations.

The testing and demonstration phase ensures that the materials meet performance criteria such as product standards and technical specifications, which are essential to grow market confidence and market demand for the procurement of recycled materials and organics in manufacturing, agriculture and construction.

As a connector for governments, business, agriculture, industry and academia, we are in a unique position to accelerate meaningful change. We have seen many successful products developed through our work including 85% recycled plastic railway sleepers, asphalt road base using recycled plastic and rubber, bike paths constructed using recycled soft plastics and glass, freeway noise panels made from 75% recycled plastic, and multiple industrial uses of recycled organic composts, soil conditioners and mulches.
