Victoria’s large energy users will have further support to help them to transition their operations to all-electric, thanks to funding delivered by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

Businesses that use between 10 and 100 terajoules of gas per year are invited to apply for up to $60,000 ($66,000 if regional) for an electrification feasibility study through the Large Energy User Electrification Support program.

Approved energy-efficiency and electrification specialists will work with funded businesses in the industrial and commercial space to develop a detailed evidence-based business case on the benefits of electrifying their operational equipment, including:

  • heating
  • ventilation and air-conditioning systems
  • low or medium heat boilers
  • furnaces, ovens, dryers, reactors and similar gas-fired appliances.

Benefits of electrification

Businesses can benefit through:

  • reduced energy consumption, achieved through an increase in efficiency by switching from gas to efficient electric appliances
  • reduced exposure to gas price volatility
  • reduced overall energy costs
  • reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • greater understanding of the operational and financial aspects of a facility’s significant energy use
  • greater understanding of the business case for electrification.

Investing in the clean energy transition

This project is one way that Sustainability Victoria is transitioning Victoria to new energy sources on our path to net zero. Electrification will play a critical role in minimising operational costs, addressing gas supply constraints and reducing emissions. Sustainability Victoria and the Victorian Government are invested in the path to a clean energy transition – with an all-electric Victoria as our destination.
