The Air Quality Improvement Precincts (AQIP) Grant Program – Round 1 supports businesses located in Metropolitan Melbourne’s Outer West to reduce the emission of PM2.5 and PM10, common air polluting particles.

PM2.5 is particulate matter of a diameter of 2.5 micrometres or smaller, and PM10 is particulate matter of a diameter of 10 micrometres (0.01 mm) or smaller.

The program is being administered by Sustainability Victoria (SV) on behalf of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

Gypsum & Fertilizer Pty Ltd

A Better Environment Plan (BEP) is a new instrument under the Environment Protection Act 2017. It is a voluntary agreement between Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) and duty holders and encourages innovative solutions to environmental issues or agreeing to ways in which duty holders can exceed their environmental obligations. The funding contributes to the below select initial components of a Better Environment Plan:

  • Develop a shared incident and dust monitoring response system.
  • Develop a Vegetation Planting and Landscaping Plan.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate training for BEP participants.
  • Develop an auditing plan and undertake routine audits.

Gypsum & Fertilizer Pty Ltd is the lead organisation responsible for administering this funding on behalf of a four-partner collaboration that comprises the BEP. The three other participants are City Circle Recycling Pty Ltd, Resource Co Pty Ltd and Delta Recycling Pty Ltd.

Funding: $145,000

Encore Tissue (Aust) Pty Ltd

Description: Purchase and installation of two Contactless Sheet Cleaning Systems to remove dust from two internal production lines before it can be emitted.

Funding: $100,000

Metal Separation and Trading Company Pty Ltd

Description: Purchase and installation of a scrubber system to reduce and capture smoke and dust from operations at the Metal Separation and Trading Company e-waste facility.

Funding: $31,000

ReSource Pty Ltd

Description: Additional dust control measures at an e-waste facility, including a fog cannon (a misting system using water to suppress dust), sealing of infeeds/outfeeds, additional suction points, and additional air filters.

Monitoring system to notify of high dust levels prompting activation of the fog cannon above.

Funding: $50,000
